45% of rural areas in Morocco still do not have access to electricity, a fact that deprives them of
any means of preserving food. Even areas with electricity cannot meet this need by purchasing
a refrigerator because of limited income.
Due to this lack of refrigeration, more than 80% of food products (vegetables, fruits, milk, etc.)
undergo alterations, even medical drugs that must be kept in a cold temperature do not retain
their value / effect (Example: Insulin).
Go Energyless is a company that designs, manufactures and markets sustainable products that
do not consume electricity, the first of which is a natural clay-based refrigerator.
Initiated by 3 young students and members of Enactus FST Mohammedia: Salaheddine
Moutacharif (CTO & Product manager) and Raowia Lamhar (Co-founder) and Soufiane Brahimi
(CMO, CRM & PR manager). The company subcontracted in the beginning its production to four
potters in Tameslouht, in the Marrakech region. These potters have a monthly income that does
not exceed 3000 Dhs / month in summer and almost half of this income in winter. The case of
these potters is like 62% of Moroccan potters who sell their products only in summer.
The monthly production capacity of Go Energyless reaches 300 units per month, offering two
- A refrigerator pot for rural areas;
Through its progress, the company aims to increase its production capacity up to 100 units per
week each year wich is 5200 pot/year, create more than 70 job opportunities, have sales outlets
in organic stores and meet the needs of at least 1,000 households/year, 30 % must be
inhabitants of rural areas.
The idea of YOURS Network: From YOUth Responsibility to Self-employability is aimed at not just at developing youth’s social skills to appreciate the community, the environment and their participation in social and political processes, but also to create a network of social responsible organizations that through the training of trainers will have the opportunity to grow into social enterprises as well. The project on one hand wants to inspire youth to build up their network and be engaged in activities such as organizing campaigns around certain societal issues. But on other hand, this project will bring innovative practices on surface, allowing participants to develop self-employability skills and to get closer to the mind-set behind social enterprise.
