Education of a child is certainly dictated by his/her socio-economic status, leaving the children with their limitless potential that is in many cases destroyed.
An initiative launched in North Lebanon one of the most underprivileged regions in Lebanon, was launched to elevate the quality and essence of education for those who need it.
Lebanon's current education systems are not designed to equip students with the essential and needed set of knowledge, skills, values, and mindset to be ready for our complex world since this system was designed for the first industrial revolution. This unjust system is affecting the behavior of administrators, teachers, and parents and every person who is around the student. Due to this broken system which is structured by the school systems, we have in Lebanon, a new trend of educational teaching centers was created to help students reach the bar and pass by drilling them with the needed information. These centers are not a solution for our inequity, they are a replica of our inequitable system.
Inspiration Garden, is a community-centered movement that is re-defining equity for every child. It is trying to provide a holistically oriented approach designed to tackle our unjust system through awareness, urgency, and action. Through providing the space for student, teacher and parent development, Inspiration Garden is providing a community of experience rather than a community of knowledge.
Founded in 2014 by passionate Lebanese youth, Inspiration Garden has managed to create a healthy and positive setting promoting students' motivation and well-being. The center, much like its name, is based around a garden allowing students to engage in their studies outside the simple and traditional classroom. Furthermore, the center works on developing the characters of both its teachers and students while fostering 21st-century skills such as grit and reflection through the programs offered at the center that are focused on three main pillars: students, facilitators & parents.
One of the students' programs is the "Coaching Program". This program provides the necessary tools for students to be empowered enough to set their goals on short-mid and long terms. Other programs offered to parents is the "Coffee House Sessions Program". This program matches parents with experts based on their needs to bring more awareness on a specific topic such as positive parenting or sexual education.Through an informal setting, parents will be guided to better understand their kids' needs.
Inspiration Garden reinforces academic skills and knowledge after school. However, Inspiration Garden is not just a tutoring center, but also a safe environment for expression through its holistic programs.
